As someone who grew up in the Christian faith, affirmations have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mum made it a point to instill the importance of knowing the Word of God by heart, and one of the ways she encouraged me to do so is by reciting Bible verses aloud and speaking positivity into my life. Over the years I’ve made this empowering practice a daily habit and I thought I’d share some of my favourites with you.

This compilation comprises a blend of personalized Bible verses and mantras I’ve come across during my yoga practice (a special thanks to Yoga with Kassandra). Affirmations should not be viewed as magic spells; rather, they function like vitamins—beneficial for your well-being, yet only a component in sustaining a healthy body. It’s essential to engage in regular physical activity, maintain a nutritious diet, and incorporate other practices for overall well-being. Similarly, achieving goals, fostering positive relationships, adhering to discipline, and addressing the six dimensions of wellness (physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, occupational, and social) alongside affirmations can truly make a substantial impact.

Closing Thoughts

There is no formula for when and how to incorporate these affirmations into your life. For example, I say my affirmations in the morning before I start my day. You may decide to say them at night before bed or set up hourly reminders on your phone so you can say them throughout the day. You may use them to journal or write them on sticky notes and place them around your house. It essentially comes down to what works best for you.

Feel free to share any affirmations from the list that resonate with you in the comments. To conclude, here’s a Bible verse that encapsulates my perspective on a healthy approach to life:

Philippians 4:8-9 MSG

Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.

Amazing. Thank you for this. I especially like that fact that you said “Affirmations should not be viewed as magic spells; rather, they function like vitamins—beneficial for your well-being, yet only a component in sustaining a healthy body.” This, I believe is a very important key to mastering the use of affirmations.
