3 Effective Ways To Romanticize Your Life

I recently finished watching the widely popular fantasy drama Alchemy of Souls on Netflix. It was recommended to me by my mum and a few friends, so I watched the first episode during my spring break. For the following two weeks, I was captivated by the thrilling universe of soul-swapping magic, epic swordsmanship, intrigue, and love. As I neared the end of the series, I started to brace myself for the void that typically follows whenever I finish a great show. The void leaves me in a state of boredom and yearning. Kind of like if “now what?” was a feeling.
However, to my surprise, I didn’t feel the void after I finished the show. Instead, I felt annoyed. I was annoyed at how ordinary life is. Magic isn’t real, humans don’t have superpowers, and dragons and mermaids don’t exist (although some people would beg to differ on the latter). So where does that leave us? How can we feel the same excitement and wonder that we get from fictional worlds in the real world? I came up with three ideas that I think are a good starting point.
1. Learn a new language

Humans don’t have superpowers, but in my opinion, being bilingual or multilingual comes close. The ability to connect with people in various languages is something I’ve always admired. Languages are easier to pick up for kids, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible for adults. In fact, there are plenty resources for adults who want to learn a new language. I think learning a new language is a great way to feel excited about cultures, concepts, and philosophies that may have otherwise been unfamiliar.
2. Travel

This may seem like an obvious one, but it’s important for me to emphasize this isn’t exclusive to intercontinental travel. You can visit a different state or a bordering country and still be amazed. Traveling gives you the opportunity to meet new people, try new foods, and discover a different way of living. At the very least, you’ll spice things up by being in a different environment. If you have the privilege to travel, I encourage you to make the most of it. If you’re extra adventurous, you may even consider moving to a new country.
3. Keep a journal

One of the best decisions I made as a teenager was to start journaling. Journaling not only gives me an outlet for my thoughts and feelings, but also it acts as a time capsule. It’s a way for me to reflect on past memories, celebrations, fears, heartbreaks, and dreams while recognizing how much I’ve progressed. This blogger gives helpful tips on how to start. And if you want to kick the ‘main character energy’ up a notch, listen to songs from your favourite playlist as you journal. 😉
There is beauty and magnificence to be found in everyday life. I hope this post inspires you to look for it or create it yourself.
